The Best Pomade

So you decided you want to go for that classic slick-back hairstyle,
the pompadour, or just want something to hold down your unmanageable hair. Well there are literally thousands of pomades to choose from. So here are the most popular, effective, and the ones I personally use.....
so let's begin.

Murray's pomade: The classic pomade. This brand is one of the oldest and most recognizable brands on the market. It is known to have one of the strongest holds. Once you put this on you can pretty much style you hair any way you want.

The drawback: It doesn't come out easy. Since it does contain petrolatum it will take a couple of washings to get out. And that's not to mention the damaged sheets. Also don't use this extensively since it does damage your hair.

American Crew: This is one of the best waxes out there. Very strong hold. It gives a natural shine. Has a nice smell to it. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like it.
The only bad thing is that it's a bit expensive compared to the other pomades.

Royal Crown Hair Dressing: This pomade has some history. Elvis used this on his hair. The best part about this pomade is the incredible shine which lasts the whole day. It goes on easily and is pliable enough to be re combed if you don't like it.
The drawback-The hold it has isn't that strong. Also most people don't like the smell, which gradually goes away throughout the day.

Black & White: Another brand used by some stars including Elvis. Some hardcore greasers only apply this to their hair and for good reason. It leaves your hair soft not sticky. And the hold is very strong.
.....

Layrite Deluxe Pomade: Pomade made by Hawleywood's Barbershop. And how they put it "goes in like wax, yet washes out like gel." The hold on this pomade is incredible. It has a very unique smell. Most likely if you use it you will instantly appreciate the hold.

The drawback- It only takes a couple minutes to set. Once it does and it's not to your liking, you try to comb it again, it starts to flake. Also once it sets its very dull, the hair doesn't shine. The last thing I can say is that it is a bit expensive compared to the classic pomades.

Dax Hair Dress: Now Dax comes in different versions, from wave and groom (the red can),to light and shiny which is the one pictured above. The Short and Neat version offers a very light pomade, which is more to give shine than to hold it in place. I use this when I want the wet hair look, which lasts the whole day. The smell it carries smells great. And its not as harsh on your hair as the other pomades.
Don't go overboard its easy to to put to much,  it then  looks to greasy.

Sweet Georgia Brown: Another classic. Has an unmistakable smell. Comes in the original blue can or the water soluble red can. This brand has been since the 1930's. It has a medium firm hold and a natural shine. This pomade is for the hard to manage hair. Contains petrolatum so its hard to get out of your hair and stains the sheets.

Sporing Waves: Has a strong hold. Its for hard to manage hair. Very pleasant smell. This pomade doesn't weight your hair down and is very inexpensive.

Nu Nile: This is a medium weight pomade, has a strong hold. Its light enough to style, ideal for a pompadours. It has a nice shine, and smell to it.

Tres Flores: Since 1915 has been giving slick back hair a soft, glossy, light hold. In 1950's and 60's was the brand for Latinos.

Brylcreem: Saved the best for last. This is what your fathers were using. You simply can't go wrong with this. It helps to keep your hair healthy, so you can use it everyday. Its perfect for that slick back look.
Leaves hair pliable so that you can re comb it through out the day. Not as greasy as the other pomades and has a very nice shine to it.

Tips and Warnings:

* Apply pomade little by little.
* Do not put on forehead or temples this may lead to unwanted acne.
*Use benefits of all to your advantage. For example I might use Layrite for the hold, and mix in a bit of Dax for the shine.
*Stay away from an open flame
*Clean your comb often
* Always look sharp

Till next time........
